Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurobiological developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. This study aims to understand aspects of the mental functioning of people with ASD based on reports of professional experiences in the healthcare field, combined with scientific literature. It is a qualitative research with content analysis, grounded in theoretical frameworks from neuroscience, psychology, and inclusive education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with professionals from Primary Health Care Units (UBS) and Child Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPSi). The results indicate the importance of continuous professional training, active listening to families, and integration of care networks. It is concluded that understanding the mind of an autistic person requires an interdisciplinary and ongoing approach that considers the individual’s uniqueness and respects their way of perceiving the world.
